“The Uphill Gardener” Scottwoz’s photos around Norseman, Australia

A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Norseman, Australia by TravelPod blogger Scottwoz titled “The Uphill Gardener” Scottwoz’s travel blog entry: “Day Twenty-four: – Caiguna – Balladonia – Norseman That last chunk of Nullarbor is a killer jaunt, an absolute mare of a jaunt. Even with half-decent weather and fresh with familiarity it’s still painfully longer than you’d ever expect. As soon as you leave the Caiguna roadhouse you’re almost instantly on the ‘big straight’, Australia’s longest stretch of straight road. It’s a real back-breaker – no bends, no change in speed limit, no momentary relief and no change in scenery. In fact, there’s not a smidgen of deviation for 146.6 tedious kilometres, absolutely nothing, until you finally see the long-awaited and overly inviting sign for Balladonia (which upon arrival turns out to be yet another petrol station with adjoining toilet. ‘Are you sure this isn’t just one big dream?’ By the time we’d lunched roadside at Balladonia (freshly hacked chorizo with baked beans, ‘English Recipe’ baked beans) we’d already eaten into the early afternoon – the constant battle and bicker with the crows contributing to much of the time consumption. Crows make the most ridiculous noise I’ve ever heard, especially when they rejoice in full chorus as they break into your car and prize out a pack of 2-minute noodles to rip apart in a frenzied assault. Shocking creatures. Leaving Balladonia was probably where we saw the main bloom of

“An enjoyable outing to Old San Juan” Bookitorskipit’s photos around San Juan, Puerto Rico

A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to San Juan, Puerto Rico by TravelPod blogger Bookitorskipit titled “An enjoyable outing to Old San Juan” Bookitorskipit’s travel blog entry: “Right off the bat Old San Juan reminded me of the streets of Antigua, Guatemala. There is something about the colorful buildings, wrought iron, and flowers that just make me fall in love with these places. Our first stop was the Castillo San Cristóbal, a US. National Park. This fort was built by the Spanish in the 1500′s and they are truly magnificent. We took the tunnel tour which basically walked us through how the castle was originally built. Our guide, Herman, had to explain to us the difference between castles, forts, and palaces as we as Americans usually mistake castles for forts. The tour lasted about an hour and we got to go into a dark tunnel where we learned how these tunnels acted as a defense mechanism for the castle. After the Castillo San Cristobal we made our way down into town for lunch. We happened upon a cute restaurant called Toro Salao (Tetuan 367, San Juan, Puerto Rico) which had outdoor seating & shade! This was my favorite meal of the trip! I devoured all the delicous tapas – Corn Fritters with Churizo & Manchego cheese, flatbread three cheese pizza and chicken quesadillas. I’d recommend getting a few things to share and it was fun to sample! They also had a great white sangria! Yum! After lunch we made our way over to El Morro – the breeze from the trade

Planet Food – Planet Food- Southern Spain featuring Padma Lakshmi

Padma Lakshmi embarks on an overland adventure across Southern Spain tasting the regional gastronomic delights whilst indulging in the local culture. Padma’s journey begins in the Andalucian capital, Seville, with breakfast; hot chocolate and Spanish doughnuts. After touring the bustling town, Padma takes a tour of authentic tapas bars. They happen upon a flamenco bar where Padma practices a few steps between sips of Sangria. She is south bound to Jerez de la Frontera where Padma meets a local chef. Together they cook with fish and sherry. The next day she ventures towards a small fishing village on the Atlantic coast, Sanlucar de Barrameda. Here Padma learns about the production of the exclusive Manzanilla sherry before buying some heavenly cakes from the local convent. After a brief detour to La Mancha, a rural Don Quixote countryside, where Padma attends the annual Saffron Harvest festival, then it’s back south to the Costa del Sol, where on the beach she meets the Paella King, Ayo. He teaches Padma how to make the authentic festive Spanish dish. She travels from the Mediterranean coast to the snow capped tips of the Sierra Nevada in one day. Padma stays at a local farmhouse in the Alpujaras valley. The owner, Paco, takes her on a donkey ride up into the mountains to hunt down the famous dry cured ham. After a hard day in the saddle she cooks an Andalucian stew with Paco’s wife and joins their family for dinner. Passing through the Moorish city of Granada, she heads
